Rebecca's Portfolio

............................................................................................................

My name is Rebecca Lopez, I'm a 10th grade Sophomore at International Studies Academy(ISA). I'm 16 years of age, my birthday is on the 3rd of April, 1992. I enjoy playing softball, and pretty soon, volleyball. Softball is a big part of my life; it's very time consuming and can really take over my life. I am hoping to become starting pitcher for our Lady Cobra team at ISA!I  also enjoy going camping, backpacking, and rock climbing. If I could do one thing over and over agian, it would be snowboarding, but everything is so expensive. I also love to run. I enjoy listening to music...no, actually, I love it, it makes me stay sane during the work hours! I'm really in to my studies, and I like to do work. My favorite subject in school would have to be mathematics and I'm pretty fond of learning about physiology in my Physical Education class(sorry Mr.E). My academic goals are to get many scholarships with the help of my grades and my extra-curricular activities. I might even become valedictorian if I keep it up.I'm definitely planning on going to a 4-year university, I wouldn't settle for a community college.I think my favorite food would have to be cheeseburgers, pizza, and other typical "American" foods. I can play the flute also, but I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano and drums!! I love to sing, but honestly, I'm not that good. I'm not that big of a "reader", but somehow I have pretty good English and I don;t have trouble reading. I am indeed Americanized, I'm from Honduras, but born and raised in California. I'm not really into my culture and I don't really care, sounds  bad, i know. I'm not trying to think about my family's past, but more of my family's future here, in America. I have never been out of the state, and I've never been on a plane, sadly. But on the bright side, I'm outgoing and unpredictable, when I'm not stressed out with other things, I enjoy joining different programs, and trying new things. I just hope I don't kill myself!

~Honors 10th Grade English Class 2008~
I was given an assignment to make a portfolio online. It documents the great pieces of work that I've accomplished during my 10th grade year in my English honors class. Since it was me, I had many to choose from(small joke). I was very impressed with some of the assignments and projects I came up with, after all that reading and writing, typing, coloring, thinking, planning, and sweating and crying, I managed to accomplish the most grueling tasks my evil English teacher has given us. what I ended up choosing were two assignments(very different): my International Interview project Essay and my Sustained Silent Reading Essay.

The International Interview Project:
This was a huge assignment that took up a whole quarter of our second semester. It consists of an essay and a digital story, which we would present to our classmates. My group's country was Japan! We were to interview Matsui Timoko, a young Japanese student going to collage here, in the United States. And after answering all our questions, we gained so much knowledge and interesting facts for our project, and we thank her for giving us her time.

The Sustained Silent Reading Essay:
I read a book called Bridget Jone's Diary, and you may have seen it on a movie screen. It's a hilarious book and I enjoyed reading it, the assignment was to type up a 200 to 400 word essay about this book. And even though our teacher gave us hundreds of guidelines on the rubric that he handed out, I still found a way to write it in an amusing way. I don't think I followed all the guidelines, but it turned out to be an okay paper, that reflect my style of writing.

I chose these pieces of writing because i believe they are assignments that I worked hard on and thought they were really interesting for others to read. Also, both pieces come with a reflection page, that really elaborates on what I wrote. So go check them out!
