My Reflection on My Sustained Silent Reading Essay:
Reading this book, made it really easy to type up a report on it. It was hilarious! It consisted of amazing quotes and stupidity that was beyond ridiculous!
This assigment was called, Sustained Silents Reading Book Report. We had to choose a book-whether it be Internationally based or not- and write an essay on it. The Essay had to be about 300 to 400 words, so it wasn't that big. We would have to do this assignment about 3 times every semester, I think we only got around to doing 5. And this is one of them. This assignment was totally independent; we had to work individually, and read on our own time.
I actually liked doing the essays because I actually read the books, but the only reason I would read is because we would get graded on it, not because I found it entertaining to do on my own time. My favorite part of the project would have to be typing the essay because I fully understood the books I read so I found it not that difficult to type. But I have to say, I did have trouble with following the rubric for that assignment because, it's really hard for me to keep my essays short, and i struggled not typing over the limit. And,also, the amount of conflicts we would have to talk about, sometimes we would have to talk about 3 of them, and it was hard to choose out of so many conflicts that occurred in the book.
To my surprise, there were some skills I learned doing this essay; I think I've gotten better at comprehending what I read and formatting what I understood from the text and write it in a way that can translate in to an essay. Also, I gained more reading skills by thinking as I read, and I tried to relate some events happening in the book to my life.
If I were to do this assignment again, I would have definitely added some quotes into the essay, because I should have given some examples of why I enjoyed reading the book so much.
The assignment was very clear, but I think he should set so many bounderies and let us use a lot of our creativity to write the piece. He should definitely assign it again, but we should get more freedom on how we would want to write it.
